Kamado Joe JoeTisserie Pork RoastTaking a few days off from work while Midge is out of town. Mostly I am dog sitting.

Today, the gray storm clouds were hanging overhead with an occasional sprinkle. Yesterday I picked up a just bit over the 4 pound mark pork sirloin roast for some JoeTisserie action.

Fishing on the Nottoway River – Part III

nottoway river, virginiaToday was shaping up to be on the cooler side of the 100-degree mark. We have experienced about 2 weeks of temperatures north of the “feels like” 100 degree mark. There was a chance of rain later, but I wanted to get outside and get in a bit of fishing.

The Nottoway was on my short list, I wanted to paddle farther upstream than my last outing on this river. So I got up early, loaded up the gear, and headed on out the door.

JoeTisserie Review – a Must Have Kamado Joe Accessory

kamado joe joetisserie reviewWe were hoping that the recent Amazon Prime day would have discounted the Kamado Joe JoeTisserie accessory. But unfortunately for us, there were no Amazon Prime JoeTisserie discounts today.

Despite not scoring a major JoeTisserie discount, we ordered one anyway for our Kamado Joe Classic.

The JoeTisserie was $263.94, including those taxes when I clicked the Amazon “Buy it now with 1-Click” button. We ordered it Friday evening and it arrived the following Tuesday.

With that bit of information, I hurriedly loaded up my Tarpon 140 fishing kayak on the truck along with the usual assortment of rods and baits.

Fishing on the Nottoway River I

Nottoway River Route 630 Bridge canoe rampThis Saturday we headed out for a relaxing day trip to fish the Nottoway River. We decided on a 5-mile stretch from Double Bridge at Route 619 to the Route 630 Bridge. At both areas, there were decent ramps for launching canoes and fishing kayaks.

Silnylon Tent Repair I

REI Quarter Dome 2 TentI noticed on my last trip that my REI Quarter Dome 2 tent had 3 small holes in the tent fly.

I suspect they were from pitching the tent when the fly was wet. As it dried in the sun, it got overly tight? Or, perhaps they are burn holes from campfire embers? I didn’t see any char marks, so I really think it is the former.

Trying out the Hawkeye FT1PX Kayak Fish Finder

Hawkeye FT1PX fish finderWhile shopping for fish finders on Amazon I ran across a neat little portable unit manufactured by Hawkeye Electronics. They had several models, but I am a fan of the standard grey scale screen that is easier to see in full sunlight so I picked up the Hawkeye FT1PX Kayak Dot Matrix Fish Finder

Rivanna River Fishing – I

bill catching a catfishThis past weekend, we decided to get out and do a bit of fishing and camping. We were heading out for a relaxing expedition down Virginia’s Rivanna River.

As the weekend approached, the weather forecast called for a chance of showers. Okay, no problems!

Big Bad Bluegill

big bluegillI was out trying to catch some monster crappie today, just casting around the shallow areas from the bank hoping to get one of the barn door sized slabs. Here in Virginia, a citation size crappie comes in at 15 inches.

To date, I have caught 9 crappie over that 15 inch mark. A few of those on a fly rod. I was hoping to catch number 10 and score an “Expert Angler” certificate.
